Travel with Kids – How to Get Them to Sleep?

When you are going to travel with kids, one of your biggest concerns will be their sleep. A change in time zone can definitely disrupt their sleeping habits, giving you a grumpy kid. On the other hand, they may get too enthusiastic about the entire trip that they could hardly sleep. To make sure that your children can still obtain sufficient sleep even if you are on a travel with kids, here are tips:

Follow their bedtime routine. This may not be too easy to follow especially if there are a lot of distractions that will prevent them from sleeping at their usual time, however, as much as possible, stick to it. You can do this by doing the same things you usually do when you are at home, such as reading books, letting them take a bath, or listening to music. If your child prefers to sleep with white noise, you can have a mobile sound system with you.

Bring something from the bedroom. To let your child experience the same level of comfort of his bedroom, you may also pack his or her favourite pillows. This can also help if your kid does not prefer the hotel pillows. Other items may include books and stuffed toys.

Help your child get rid of jetlag. If there is going to be a change in time zone, it is essential that you do not let your kid fall asleep during the flight, even if he or she ends up whining or throwing tantrums. You will benefit from your actions later. Rather, to avoid boredom, you can engage your child in different activities while on the plane such as arts and crafts.

Minimize the distractions. Your kid may also be used to having his or her own room at home, but this may be totally different when you are on a trip since you may share guest or hotel room. What you can do to reduce distractions is to limit the light and noise that gets into the room.

Allow your children to unwind. When you travel with kids, give them their own time to relax. It does not matter if you have been doing a lot of things the entire day. You cannot expect them to hit the bed right away. You can read books, sing songs, watch movies, and other things they love to do. You can do this an hour before they officially hit the snooze button.
